Abstract

The main objective of the following article is analize the rol of the media in comparison with the neopopulist reality associated to the administrations of Menem and Fujimori and how that element composed a crucial cause en the explication of their voting processes. The hypothesis of this article is that the neopopulists use a strategic type of communication which by the use of the media seeks to satisfy the hopes and gain the trust of the people it is aimed at. Analyzing the governments of Menem and Fujimori with a neopopulist point of view and the role which the media have as tools to analyze, makes it possible to show that the governments were able to represent realities which were foreign to traditional politics and showed that they could bring into being alternative projects , beginning with certain ideas and particular situations.
